How To Bypass BSNL's FUP [ Expired ]

Hi there fellas , today lets talk about BSNL Broadband and finally i'll let you know how to avoid BSNL's speed throttling.

BSNL , A Small Intro -

BSNL has been the most trusted broadband provider since it was started on 2000 , it has around 79.21 million subscribers in INDIA and the only problem is we don't actually get the speeds we are supposed to .

BSNL also provides fiber connections with speeds upto 100mbps

We are in the same wide world  -

If you are reading this then i suppose that you are a BSNL Broadband customer too.

*I'm currently using( BBG Combo ULD @ 945) plan and i'm supposed to get upto 2 Mbps till 8 GB, 512 Kbps beyond 8 GB thats their promise in dreams . But in real life i get 300kbps download speed within FUP(Fair Usage Policy) and 30~40kbps post FUP.

If you ask them about it , they'll say that FUP is to avoid traffic congestion and to provide all their customers with decent speed (THEY SUPPORT EQUALITY IT SEEMS)

BSNL PLANS-

Check out BSNL's plans from here (Includes both ADSL/FIBER )

BSNL's Speed Throttling -

Lets suppose that you are using BBG Combo ULD 945 until FUP you'll get 300kbps and post FUP you will be notified to restart your modem to enjoy reduced speeds (30~40kbps).

Enjoy with 40kbps ? LOL (They're kidding with us) . Yeah , the actual bandwidth is 512kbps but download speeds are as low as 30~40kbps.

You'll be redirected to this page if you try to access any website say facebook.com after FUP -

Trick For SmartPhones -

After using FUP you'll be redirected to a page that will ask you to restart your modem right ?

Don't do it , you can still use INTERNET on your smartphone at the same speed (As your plan). Yeah it seems there is a flaw in BSNL's system and it allows google's servers to be used (No redirection).

Access to Google Services -

Connect your smartphone to your WiFi connection and google services can be accessed on your smartphone without getting redirected at the same speeds.

Google services like

  • Google Search Engine
  • PlayStore
  • Gmail
  • And other applications

PlayStore -

After connecting your smartphone to WiFi connection open PlayStore and download any application , you can see that it works fine at same speed you were getting at the beginning of the month .

Download all the bigger applications you wanted.
For example games like Asphault Asphalt 8: Airborne (1GB+) that you wanted to play and didn't download worrying about your FUP limit.

*And don't forget to update all your applications

Access to Rest Of Internet -

Don't worry there is a workaround to access the rest of internet through your smartphone .
After your Playstore work ( Installing/Updating ) is completed install hide.me V P N on your smartphone

Hide.me V P N - (PlayStore Link)

The reason i'm suggesting Hide.me V P N is that its one click feature ( V P N enabled in just one click )

Install it and register for a new account (Do this before using up your FUP limit as you cannot access internet after FUP limit without restarting your modem)

Enter credentials and Click on Enable Protection and now you can access the rest of the internet including YouTube and any other sites at the same speeds .

Using VPN allows you to access internet even through smartphone applications like Clash of Clans , UC Browser etc.

*You can also use any other V P N of your choice , its your smartphone right ?

  1. It will not work, BSNL is not contains fools.
For your information, download speed is
    512Kbps=52KBytes/Sec
    2Mbps = 225KBytes/Sec
    4Mbps=450KBytes/Sec Maximum

    1. Bsnl is only Giving us
1.8 MBPS speed for 2MBPS(200KBytes/Sec) plan and 3.5 MBPS (450KBytes/Sec)

    2. Don't confuse Bandwidth with download speeds
My bandwidth is 2mbps but my download speed is somewhere around 300kbps.

    3. Imagine that your connection to the internet is like a river. Bandwidth is the width of the river. If you have a tiny creek of a river, then not much water goes through at one time. If you have a massive, mile-wide river, more water can flow through it at once.

Speed is closely related to bandwidth. The wider (bandwidth) your river is, the more data you can access at once, and, obviously, faster.

However, there are many factors that can slow down internet traffic, normally always from latency in hardware.

Considering there are no leaks. Then a 2 Mbps will be equal to 256 KBps (theoretically maximum)

      1 Byte = 8 bits

Read carefully every ISP advertises in Mbps and not in MBps
2Mbps is equal to 2/8 MBps.

If you want try it for yourself , that's all i could say :)

And for your information my current plan is COMBO945 - 1Mbps and i'm getting speeds up to 400Kbps.
Download Speed cannot be calculated my friend it varies accordingly .

  5. I figured this trick last year and it worked absolutely fine during first half of 2015. But it doesn't work for me anymore. I use certain data monitors to keep an eye on how much data have i burned during the month. As soon as i hit 8 gigs it kicks the fup to 512kbps. Am i missing something. No i dont restart my modem. No i dont even click on that redirection page. But still my bandwidth falls back to 512

    1. Hi, betaleaker or whatever your name is . What plan are you currently on ?
Note - Try downloading apps from play store after using up your fup (even without VPN)
Currently this trick works fine on Android Smartphones .

    2. thumbs up for quick reply.
this trick not only works for android but for every other thing or site whether windows PC, Smartphone, etc.
But there's a catch. this thing works without VPN only for those site or URL's or Apps which use "HTTPS". ( plus i believe for mobile sites too as in "m.xxxxxxxxx.com" )
      With VPN it works everywhere.

But i am unable to make use of this maybe around after may 2015.
My plan is combo999 similar to yours. I don't know why it stopped working in my case. I saw your recent comment "Coz , even yesterday i tried it and worked super fine .
Note : I used up my 8GB cap yesterday :P"
so i thought maybe i should ask you if you are employing anything different.

    3. Vipin , thanks for the additional info (HTTPS).
So,after using your FUP are you redirected to a page with the message that states " Dear customer , you have used your Fair Usage Limit ... blah blah " and provided with option to Upgrade or what ?
My question is what actually happens after you complete your FUP ?

      Delete
  6. After the Fup we are redirected to this "dear customer page"
One can either top up or decline. I do none. I ignore that (dont even restart my modem for full month) and used vpn till the time this worked. But now as soon as i reach 8gigs fup. The bandwidth falls back on its own. I heard sometime back that bsnl is using " smart bytes "
What is that one thing you are doing and i am missing?
Is it really working for you even now?
I used this trick to work throughout the month almost taking over 150+gigs without differential speed.

  7. Vipin ,

And as for last month i used this method and it worked fine.
In the mean time why don't you check out my other posts which you could find useful.

  13. Dear all,
FUP check is started when you starts the modem. If you reached the usage limit, you will be connected in reduced speed only and redirected to bsnl website to upgrade/decline. Even you didn't agree, you can browse the websites using other ports like vpn port or https ports.
But you are in reduced speed only. Sometimes BSNL removes the FUP purposely to check the traffic handling capacity of their network.
You cant hack any ISPs router or Server.

  19. Firstly FUP had kicked in into my broadband plan and now 2 days back i happen to Restart my modem at approximately 3.00am as i was not getting internet and I noticed 2Mbps bandwidth with speeds around 200KB/s.
I managed to download more than 20gb for 2 days... after which suddenly the speed went back to 512Kbps .

dont know what exactly happend but i did try doing the same procedure at around 3am :P :P But i guess i ran out of Luck!!!

Would love to know if this can somehow help bypassing FUP.....
